FULL DAY TOUR FROM ROME TO NAPLES AND POMPEII
Leaving Rome by escorted coach we take the "Highway of the Sun",
crossing the fertile Latium countryside with its Roman castles and vineyards
and the Ciociaria (grain and vegetable cultivation area). Approximately
half way to Naples, there is a splendid view of the Abbey Of Montecassino,
famous for its complete destruction during World War II, and the exact
reconstruction since then. Leaving Latium, we enter Campania, passing
Caserta, and the sumptuous Palace of the Bourbon Kings (XVII Cent.), continuing
on to Naples, where we take the modern ring road that seems suspended
above the city, with a view that extends from the blue sea and beyond
to the hills of the Vomero and Capodimonte. We continue on to Posillipo,
traditionally a residential area since Greek-Roman times. Descending towards
Mergellina and travelling along the coastal Via Caracciolo, we reach S.
Lucia, ancient fishing village and Castel Dell’Ovo that seems to
float on the water. Continuing the visit to Naples: Piazza Plebiscito
with the Royal Palace and the Basilica Of S. Francesco Di Paola, San Carlo
Opera House, Gallery Of Umberto I and the Maschio Angioino (XIII cent.
fortress). The visit ends at the commercial port. On to Pompeii, ancient
Greek-Roman city that was completely buried under ash during the terrible
eruption of Vesuvius in 79 A.D. Almost completely brought to light by
the excavations started in 1748 and still in progress today.
Lunch and visit the excavations on foot, lasting approximately 2 hours.
Departure for Rome driving along the "Highway of the Sun" approximately3
hours ride.
Return to or nearby your hotel. During the tour, you will have the opportunity
to visit a Coral and Cameo factory where you can purchase exquisite hand-made

IF YOU REQUIRE A SPECIFIC HOTEL IN SORRENTO, WE NEED TO BE INFORMED IN
GOOD TIME AND WE WILL ENDEAVOUR TO ASSIGN THE REQUESTED HOTEL AT A SUPPLEMENT
TO BE ASSESSED ACCORDING TO THE HOTEL CHOSEN.
WE INFORM CLIENTS THAT ON THE 3 DAY TOUR TO SORRENTO, IT IS ADVISABLE
TO LEAVE THE BULK OF THE LUGGAGE AT THE HOTEL IN ROME (COMPATIBLY WITH
ONE’S ITINERARY) AND CARRY ONLY AN OVERNIGHT BAG. THE REASON BEING
THAT THE RETURN JOURNEY TO ROME WILL BE VIA CAPRI AND THEREFORE THE LUGGAGE
